Dear Ageris,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all of the members of your Club. Can you please send me your address so I can send you an acknowledgement of us joining our two clubs as "Sister Clubs".
I also wanted to see whether you had heard about the formation of the new World Judo Federation (WJF). It was officially created in August of 2011 and I have been elected Vice President for Oceania Region. We are looking to build the membership of the federation to promote Kodokan Judo. Something I know you are very pasionate about. It would be great to have you as part of the Europen Continental Union representing Greece. Would you consider such?
The WJF has not been created to run in opposition ot the IJF but as an alternative to the IJF with the prime aim of making Judo available to all, and spreading the sport at a grass roots level through to the elite. At this stage, we are going to hold World Championships for Juniors and Seniors, Teams & Kata each year. It is only a new organisation so a lot of work still has to be done but it is taking shape. If you get a chance have a look at the WJF website.
I look forward to hearing back from you. Yasu!

Re: Your interest for Membership of the World Judo Federation (WJF)
Dear Mr. Maistrellis,
I am receipt of a copy of an email, dated 12-01-04, from Mr. David Gordge, president of our
WJF Oceania Continental Federation, in which he recommends me to contact you.
Let me first present myself. I am the co-founder and 1st Vice President of the World Judo
Federation and also the President for Europe. Further I am former Council Member of Sport-
Accord (GAISF). I have been involved in many international Martial Arts and Sports for about
45 years. I know also very well the Greek sport organization and many persons in the Greek
sport leadership. I have also been professionally involved in Greece with engineering partner
in Athens. Among other projects, we have been doing the environmental assessment of the
motorway Attika Odos from the airport in Athens. Through Mr. David Gordge in Australia I
have also got very positive references regarding you and your leadership in Greek judo.
The reason I contact you at this moment is that you have showed your interest in
membership of WJF, and that we are now building up this federation in the world including
WJF Continental Federations. As being responsible for Europe I am now in the beginning of
this year trying to found this continental body and call for a constitutive meeting. I interpret
your email to Mr. Gordge in the way, that you want to cooperate and be member of the WJF.
The WJF is organized in line with most other international sports organizations, i.e. the World
federation consists of five Continental Federations for Africa, America, Asia, Europe and
Oceania, as described within the WJF Statutes and Bye-Laws. The main difference between
the newly constituted WJF and other existing international federations organizing judo, is that
the basic aim of WJF is to be the World Judo Federation, which is taking care of the Sport
for All aspect – “Judo for All”. The WJF is not competing with existing federations’ wish of
primarily organizing the elite sport for Olympic Games and similar elite sports events.
The organizing process of the WJF has gone on for many years since 2009 and it has been
a careful planning for building a new World Federation in line with Sport for All guidelines,
principles and visions. The WJF was thus recently constituted in an Inauguration Congress at
Niteroi, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Friday 26 August 2011. Please see information on our
web page www.worldjudofederation.org. On Saturday 27 August there was the first WJF
organized event, the First WJF Senior Judo Championships. We have also just had the
Pan American Open Masters Championship in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in the
beginning of December 2011.
The WJF is now under a period of intensive development in our different Continental
Federations, where especially the Sport for All aspects will be taken care of. We have
recently been accepted as full international member of TAFISA, “The Association for
International Sport for All”, and we intend to work closely with TAFISA for building the
Judo for All Federation and for learning how to integrate the Sport for All activities as much
as possible in our daily development work. TAFISA is recognized by the IOC, UNESCO,
United Nations Sport Develop- ment etc., which gives the WJF good recognition within the
international sports community.
You expressed in your email to Mr. Gordge, that there are many in Greece, which are
unhappy with the IJF and the IJF Greek Federation. Do you have contacts with other
countries e.g. on the Balkan, which could have interest of being member of the WJF? Please
inform me, and I will send information also them. It is very important for WJF to, as soon as
possible, build up a strong “Judo for All” organization in Europe and the entire world.
Another aspect, which is in our future interest and in our development plan, is the Sport and
Peace activities, especially for the poor and less developed countries in Africa and some
Asian Countries. Elite sport is very important for attracting young people and to motivate
them for their engagement in sport activities, but the daily Sport for All work is the tool for
letting all underprivileged having the possibilities to be able to afford the participation in sport
activities. Judo as Sport for All is an extremely suitable activity in line with TAFISA’s interest
in Traditional Sports and Games. The WJF intends to take part in the TAFISA 5th World Sport
for All Games at Siauliai, Lithuania, July 2012. We are thus looking forward to an intensive
cooperation within this important part of the international sports community.
If there are any additional documents needed for your judgment of WJF and/or needs for
more information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Please also see the WJF home page
www.worldjudofederation.org , where you also find the WJF Statutes, Bye-Laws and many
other interesting documents.
Regarding membership application procedures for affiliation to WJF, please see our web site
as above under “procedures of affiliation”.
Looking forward to your positive approach for your federation, association and/or
organization to be member of the World Judo Federation, I send my best regards and
greetings to your organization and to you personally.
Yours sincerely
WJF World Judo Federation – Judo for All
